5 Common Chiropractic Techniques for Back and Neck Pain

man enduring back and neck pain

There are well over 100 chiropractic techniques that are used in the United States. Nearly all of them are forms of spinal manipulation, also known as spinal adjustments. Most of these adjustments are performed by hand. At Spine Pain Center in North Charleston, SC, we hold a firm belief that when a person's spine is properly aligned, the functioning of the nervous system is enhanced, and strain in the neck and back is reduced. As a result, both function and mobility are increased, while reducing your pain. We have gathered five chiropractic techniques that we use to provide chiropractic care:

Gonstead Technique: This is a widely used technique for lower back pain treatment. It is a hands-on technique that is virtually painless.

Lumbar Roll: The patient is positioned on their side. The chiropractor gives a quick thrust to a misaligned vertebra to provide proper alignment.

Cervical Mobilization: This is a neck pain treatment. With the patient lying on their back, the chiropractor moves the patient's head smoothly from side to side, back and forth, or in a figure-eight motion to realign the cervical spine.

Cervical Manual Traction: This treatment is also used as a neck pain treatment. The patient lies on their stomach, the chiropractor will lightly pull on the neck and stretch the vertebrae forward and backward.

Thompson Drop-Table Technique: A special table with movable segments is used for the patient to lay face down on. As the chiropractor performs the spinal adjustments, certain table segments will drop and aid in the adjustment of the spine.
