How Chiropractors Can Treat Joint Pain

Chiropractic care involves joint manipulation. When the spine is being adjusted by a chiropractor, this is often called a spinal adjustment. However, the same techniques can also correct joint misalignment. In addition to joint manipulation, our chiropractors may use complementary therapies to help provide pain relief.

Joint Manipulation

Joint misalignment is often the underlying cause of joint pain. We can use gentle pressure to help realign joints in the body, which can provide pain relief. Realigning joints might also improve your range of motion, relieve inflammation, speed healing, and prevent future injuries.

In addition to joint manipulation, joint mobilization can be used. Joint mobilization moves the joint through the normal range of motion and works to help correct any restrictions in the joint that can limit the range of motion.

Corrective Exercises

Corrective exercises might be recommended along with joint manipulation. A chiropractor on our chiropractic care team can teach you how to do the exercises in office. Then, you can continue to perform them at home.

Corrective exercises can improve flexibility and strength. Over time, this can help reduce your risk of injury, and help you heal from existing conditions.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy can be used to help provide joint pain relief. It is a treatment for pain due to injuries, as well as chronic pain from conditions like arthritis.

Cold laser therapy uses light to provide pain relief. The light penetrates your body’s tissues. This essentially may help activate the body's natural healing ability. Laser therapy may help reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, and speed the healing process.

In addition to these properties, laser therapy can help provide pain relief.
