Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression: Is It Right For You?

Dealing with back pain can slow down your day. Spinal decompression can help. At Spine Pain Center of Mount Pleasant, our chiropractic care team is here to work with you to provide the treatment that you need to begin the journey toward a pain-free life. Whether you're an experienced chiropractic patient or you're new to holistic healthcare, we'll work with you to help you feel your best. Let's take a look at one of our most popular treatments: spinal decompression.

.

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression is a mechanical chiropractic care technique that uses a motorized traction and a computer to adjust your spine. The patient lies on the spinal decompression table (fully clothed), and a harness is used to allow the table to move to adjust the patient's spine. This treatment relieves pressure on the discs of the spine and can provide pain relief to people who are living with sciatica, disc degeneration, bulging discs, and other issues that can cause ongoing spinal pain.

Your First Spinal Decompression Appointment: What to Expect

When you come into Spine Pain Center for your first spinal decompression appointment, you'll fill out some forms to help us fully understand your health history. Our chiropractor will work with you to ensure that you're a good candidate for spinal decompression.

If you decide to move forward with treatment, you'll lie on the spinal traction table, and your chiropractor will secure you with harnesses to allow the table to move your spine. The computer will detect changes that need to be made in your spine and will use small movements to adjust your body. You'll likely feel some gentle stretching but should not feel any pain. Many people find that they have some immediate pain relief following their appointment, while others find that it takes several appointments to begin to feel pain relief.

Does Spinal Decompression Hurt?

Spinal decompression should not cause any pain. If you find that you feel uncomfortable or in pain during your treatment, let your chiropractor know right away, so they can make adjustments to the spinal traction machine.
